Hoa Lai style of Cham architecture is characterized by the pilasters which are normally arranged in the series of four and the band decoration in the center of these pilasters. These characters are similar to Hoa Lai style in Vietnam. The Garuda decorating the capital is also reminiscent of the same pattern at Hoa Lai. However, this temple is unfinished because the band at the center of the pilasters is devoid of any motifs.

There are four pilasters on each wall of the body denoting the early Cham art. The motif band in the middle of the pilaster is typical to Hoa Lai art while the miniature temples decorated at the base are identical to those in Indian and Pre-Angkorian Khmer art. The superstructure comprises the superimposing miniature tiers indicating the south Indian influence.

The arch of Hoa Lai is characterized by the harp-liked arch filled by the foliage motif, The double inner-and-outer volutes are visible at the gable while the animals motif which had been previously popular was now omitted. This is the indigenous characters of Hoa Lai style, different from the Indian-styled of the period of My Son E1.

Hoa Lai is assigned to the early phase of Cham architecture as there are merely four pilasters on each side of the body. The pilaster is decorated with the motif band, typical to Hoa Lai period. This kind of decoration is also similar to Indian art. The capital is strikingly ornamented with the statue of Garuḍa holding Nāga. The bird-faced Garuḍa with beak is important as it is different form the human-faced one in Indian art.

Despite being unfinished, the northern tower of Hoa Lai is so significant as it is one of the most complicate towers in Cham art. The striking feature is the decoration of several types of miniature tower at the bases of the pilasters. Each of this miniature tower is so complicate and exquisite with the architectural articulation. Considering form the style of these miniature towers, becasue these towers are connectible to the Indian and Pre-Angkorian art, the north tower of Hoa Lai is assignable to the early phase of Cham art.

The head of this Bhodhisavara wears the crown like monk with a trianglular cornice according the Pala-Chava arts. The face is still very much Indian-Chava.in the the eyes look down at the floor, the mounth is thing and the image has no shoes. This shows a strong influece from Java that had been prevsilance.

This Vishanu on Garuda shows the influence of Chava art that blended with the local Hua Lai art. The hat is decorated with three triangular decoration similar to Pala-Chava art. However, the mounth is rather thick, the eyes are protuding and there is a mustache on top of the mounth (the local characteristic). Garuda has a tip and “kanok” wings, which is a local characteristic.

The head of this Bhodhisavara wears the crown like monk with a trianglular cornice according the Pala-Chava arts. He wears the long Roti cloth according to the southern India-central Chava art. This sculpture has thick mouth and protuding eyes, which are the local characteristics. In addition, yajñopavita robe is also missing. This makes it different from Chava art.
