History of production

The royal quarters was built in the reign of King Rama I.

Conservation

The major restoration was in the reign of King Rama III, for instance, constructing bricks cover the wooden pillars in the reception hall of the Amarinvinichai Mahaisuryaphiman Throne Hall, changing the roof frame and renovating the wall of the reception hall in front of the Cakraphatphiman Throne Hall.

Art

The Royal Quarters are brick-and-stucco buildings in traditional Thai style which consist of three connecting important throne hall in rectangular plans; Cakraphatphiman Throne Hall, Paisaltaksin Throne Hall, Amarinvinichai Mahaisuryaphiman Throne Hall. Their roof tiles are green and orange or yellow. Their pediments display Devas holding swords in their hands. Their interior wall are painted about the mythology which are related to the royal court and other patterns.

Key academic information

The Royal Quarters consist of five connecting important buildings; Cakraphatphiman Throne Hall, Paisaltaksin Throne Hall, Amarinvinichai Mahaisuryaphiman Throne Hall, The left and the right Phra Prashws. Furthermore, threre are Ho Phra Suralayaphiman and Ho Phra That Monthientham as the storages of Buddha’s and the kings’ relics.

The Royal Quarters are situated in the centre of the Grand Palace. They are used for royal living quarters as well as the royal administration. The important buddha figures, sculptures such as Phra Siam Devadhiraj, thrones, for example, Bhadrabit Throne and Astadis Throne and other royal insignia are kept inside the Royal Quarters. The coronation and The birthday anniversary ceremonies are performed here.
