History of production

No construction history was available, but from the art characteristics, it is assumed that it was built around the late 21st century – early 22nd century BE. The top part above the main body might have been restored in the 24th century BE.

Conservation

Registered as archaeological site in the Government Gazette, Volume 53 Issue 24, on 2 August 1936. Phra Dhat Nongsammeun were excavated and restored between 1988 -1990

Art

The Chedi is in an indented plan with circumambulatory supporting two sets of Singha base topped with an inverted lotus based with convex lotus bud. The main body is decorated with arch tiles. There are Buddha images in the arch. There is a sloping roof and there is a replica on top of the main body with four additional replicas on top of each arch. The top par is a square bell element.

This Chedi combines several forms of art including Singha base from Ayutthaya art, a sloping roof, a replication of the main body at the top and the arch tiles from Lanna art and the addition of replication of Prasat on the four sides and the top of the square bell element.

Legend

A legend mentions that Phra Dhat Nongsammeun was constructed as a memorial to store relics and valuable things of grandparents along with other Phra Dhats. There used to be a large bell hanging at the top of Phra Dhat.
