SculptureBuddha Image from Dong Duong
The characters of this Buddha image are of the normal Amaravati or Sri Lankan art. Low Ushanisha, the curly hairs, one-shoulder-covered robe with the left rim raising towards the left hand in the shape of triangle are some of the characters of Amaravati or Sri Lankan Buddha images. The right hand is in Vitarka Mudra while the left holds the tip of the garment in symmetrical manner, which also affiliate to Sith Indian or Sri Lankan art.
ArchitectureDong Duong
The wall of Dong Duong tower comprises 4 pilasters similar to Hua Lai. However, this is the first time that the narrow flute in the middle of the pilaster is introduced. The floral motif bands are at the side of the pilasters instead of being at the center. The miniature temple decorated the pilaster base is comparable to the pre-Angkorian temple. This temple is unfinished and the motif at the pilaster is half-finished carved.
ArchitectureNiche: Khuong My
At the front portico of Kuong My, there are niches decorated with the Dong Duong style arch. The arch is characterized by the lotus-bud –like apex and the continuous half-arches filled with the floral motifs. The style of arch is similar to that at Dong Duong. However the style of the pilaster is assignable to My Son A1 style.
ArchitecturePilasters : Khuong My
The body of the towers at Kuong My is punctuated with 5 pilasters, only 4 of which are visible as the central one is hidden by the central niche. Each pilaster is decorated with the scrolls ended with the flame-like floral motif, typical to My Son A1 style. The flute in the middle of the pilasters penetrates the capital, also typical to My son A1 style. Nevertheless, the style of the arch of the niche is assigned to Dong Duong style.
SculptureBuddha from Don Duong
This Buddha image shows the characteristics of the local Ding Deung mixed with influences from Chenese and Indian arts. First of all, the posture of sitting with the legs hanging down and both hands are on the laps shows the influence from Chinese art, but the robe is worn in a sliding way and the short edge of the robe at the left showder is a characteristic of Pala art in India. However, The head of this Buddha image shows clear local chatcteristics of Dong Deung such as thick lips, large nose, protuding eyes, and connected eyebrows.
SculptureMukhalinga Cover
This linga shows a strong charcteristic of Dong Deung art especially the face. It has thick mounth, large nose and protuding eyes. The eyebrows are connected and there is a mustache. This is very different from the Indian-Chava appearing in My Son E1 and A1. Sometimes, linga might be covered by valuable metal,making it more holy. The metal covered might be made from copper, silver or gold.
SculptureBuddha’s Head from Don Duong
The head of this Buddha image shows clear local chatcteristics of Dong Deung especially the face. It has thick lips, large nose, protuding eyes, connected eyebrows and curvy hair. It is interesting that there is a lotus bud at the top of the head. This truly represents the local characteristics.
SculpturePedestal from Dong Duong
This large base is one of the two bases for the principle Buddha image of Dong Deung. One base has been brought from the Vihara and the other has been brounght from Dong Deung Prasat. Now, they are conserved in Danang Museum. This base consists of scenes about the Lord Buddha life in squre channels. Besides, it is decorated with Kanok patterns and niches of Dong Deung.
