Art | The narratrives in Eastern Java art usually depict human sculpture similar to Java shadow play. The sculpture only shows on side of the face and never face the audience directly. It wears local crown which is different from that in India. The space is filled with flower and cloud patterns. The building itself is of the local style. All of these localities show unique characteristics of “Eastern Java art”. |

Religion and belief | When Arjuna, one of the Panop brothers, had to go to the forest after losing the city to Kaorop. Arjuna wanted to be ascetic in order to ask for special weapons from Shiva. He travelled to see a hermit and stood on one leg to pay homage to Shiva. At last, Shiva was pleased and granted him a special weapon. |
Related artwork | This narrative can be divided into two scenes: Arjuna meeting the hermit on the right and Arjunta being ascetic on the left. It should be noted that Arjunta is often followed by a “clown” according to the convention of Java shadow play. |
