Art

This chedi is a bell shape chedi. It has two layer flat base and three layer lotus base that decorate with singha, norasingha, purnaghata(abundance pot) and stupika, the short bell in the circular plan, short cone shape, spire and tiered umbrella on top.

Key academic information

The only Burmese chedi in Thailand that is organized systematically similar to the authentic Burmese chedi in the Amarapura-Mandalay art.

Notice

The two layer flat base that decorate with norasingha should be the result of restoration because this part overlaps the lotus base, it shows that this chedi was originally located on the ground. This chedi therefore resembles a true Burmese chedi in the art of Amarapura-Mandalay consistent with the Khan Tha Lay, the first governor that migrated from Burma and should have brought craftsman too.

This chedi has been built the Payathat building close to the Chedi which is popular in Burmese style chedi in Mae Hong Son school of art such as Wat Phra That Doi Kong Mu, Wat Chong Klang etc.
