History of production | There is no direct evidence related to the origin of this sculpture. However, the lintel in Sambor Prei Kuk combined with Prei Khmeng style suggests that it might be built during the late 12th century B.E to early 13th century B.E. |

Art | It is a rectangular-shaped lintel. The middle is engraved with 4 consecutive curved circles. The confluence of each arc is decorated with an oval pattern. Inside the oval pattern is decorated with an image of an angel on a vehicle. Under the curved lines are engraved patterns of garlands and a bunch of flowers. Next to both curved ends is a dragon facing inward with Its mouth open as if it is blowing out an arc of fire. There is an image of a person sitting above the dragon and the dragon is supported by a square base. |
Key academic information | This piece of lintel was found at the northern Prasat of Prasat Khao Noi, Amphoe Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo Province. It is the lintel in Sambor Prei Kuk style during the late 12th century B.E. It is the first batch of lintels found in Thailand. This lintel decorates the northern Prasat of Prasat Khao Noi together with other 3 lintels that share Sambor Prei Kuk and Prei Khmeng Arts. This suggest that the northern Prasat was approximately built during the late 12th century B.E to early the 13th century B.E. This can be considered as one of the oldest examples of Prasat of Khmer culture found in Thailand. |
