It is a walking Buddha image on lotus base. The left hand is performing Vitarka Mudra. The face is oval-shaped rather round, like a real person. The hair is coiled into small spirals. There is the ushnisha under the flame halo. The ears are long. The image is wearing the robe across a shoulder with outer robe on the shoulder and the robe is wavy folded naturally. The edge of the robe is realistically attached to the rear throne.

Key academic information

Phra Si Sakaya Dasabalayan Prathan Phutthamonthon Sudassana is the principal Buddha image of Phutthamonthon which was built to celebrate the 25th century anniversary of Buddhism in 2500 BE. The Buddha image is inspired by the style of walking Buddha image during Sukhothai period, however, the style of wearing robes is more realistic. As it is the large Buddha image, 137 pieces were separately casted, then assembled to the metal structure attached to the base to form the whole body and finally filled up rifts to fuse it into one piece. This is considered as a contemporary sculpture and is the most beautiful and largest bronze walking Buddha in Rattanakosin period.
