Legend | The legend says Phra That Chom Kitti began to be built by King Singhanawat Kuman to house the hairs that were received from the Lord Buddha. Later in the year 940, Phra Phangkharat and his son, Phra Phrom the Great received the Lord Buddha's relics(forehead) from Lanka. Therefore, a pagoda was built on Doi Chom Kitti to contain the relics with a width of 6 meters and 13 meters in height, completed in 940. Later, Lord Chiang Song, the ruler of Chiang Saen repaired the chedi in 1487 and was restored by Prince Chalerm Muang together with the people of Chiang Saen in the year 1685. From the legend, we can see the characteristics of the Lanna legend that often talks about coming or receiving the hairs from the Lord Buddha. This legend was found in the legend of the construction of other chedis in Lanna as well. |
