Key academic information

The surrounding elephant chedi in Lanna art which is highly influenced by Sukhothai art.

Notice

1. The patterns that appear on the chedi arch can be dated in the 20th Buddhist Century, consistent with the history of the pagoda in the year 1437.

2. The reason why the chedi of Wat Pa Daeng Luang is inherited from Sukhothai art may be because this temple is related to the coming of the new Langkawi Buddhism, Pa Daeng Temple sects. It is a group of monks who travel to brought religion from Lanka and return to spread and prosper during the reign of King Tilokaraj. Therefore, they go back to create a Lanka style chedi and relate to Sukhothai or maybe because of the political influence that spread to Si Satchanalai, causing the chedi forms from there to appear in Lanna too, because in the reign of King Tilokaraj appeared in many diverse works of art.
