History of production | Bayon was constructed during the reign of Jayavarman VII during the 12th century A.D. It is the last colossal temple in Khmer art conceptualized with the Mahayanist ideology. The king established himself as the incarnation of Buddha. His representation as the Buddha image under the protection of Naga was enshrined in the center of the temple. |
