History of productionBorobudur is the largest Mahayana stupa in Indonesia built by Sailen dynasty, It was built as a replica of the Mahayan universe. Sculpture is each floor represents worlds in Buddhism. At the bottom, there is a Kama World craved according to Kamvipang Scriptures related to the good acts of humans. Above this is the sculpture craved according to Lalitvistara and๋ Jataka which represent Sirsakaymunee. The is the transition between Kama world and physical world. On top of this, there is a sculpture craved according to Kantavayuvasut scripture showing the story of Suthon seeking for extrication which is in line with the physoical world.
ArtSculpture at Borobudur is very similar to Indian art in terms of the costumes, appliance, round characters and empty space. All of these show that central Java is related to Indian art.

Religion and beliefThe victory of Buddha over Mara before his enlighthenment is one of the most powerful scenes in Borobuder. The Buddha is in the middle in subduing mara attitude which he calls the goddess of earth to witness. At the bottom is the goddess of earth holding a pot. Mara army are on both sides firing flower arrows to the Buddha. The flowers arrow may represent that the great mara is the cupid of Hindusim who uses flower arrows.
