History of production | Lokathiekpan is a small pagoda. It is situated not very far from Shwezigon pagoda. There is no history of who had built the pagoda or when it was built. Looking at the style of the pagoda, however, it is clear that this pagoda was built in mid-Pagan era, around the end of 17 century BE. |

Art | The mural is a lot similar to Pala style in using warm colors as the main colors, for example. All of these are similar to murals in palm-leaf bible which are found both in east India and Myanmar. |

Religion and belief | The mural in Lokathiekpan is an example of the best iconography of mural and sculpture. The sculpture (The middle image of Buddha- for the enlightenment) and the mural (other seven parts of Buddha’s Life Scenes) were designed to display murals of eight scenes (Eight Buddha’s Life Scenes). The Eight Scenes were famous in Pala Art. This shows that these eight places were very sacred and well-known for the pilgrims. |
Related artwork | From the three Buddha stories found in the mural: the Buddha coming down from Tavatimsa Heaven (the upper mural), the Buddha demonstrating the Ya-ma-ga miracle (the middle mural), and the Buddha being born (the bottom mural). The iconography of the three murals was imitated from Pala iconography style. However, the local iconography can also be seen; for example, the holding of the sun and the moon when demonstrating Ya-ma-ga miracle. On top of the mural appears mara army which is a part of the subduing Mara |
