History of production | Abeyadana was constructed by Abharatna, queen of King Kyanzittha whoe ruled Pagan during the 11th century. Inside the temple is the mural reflecting the Mahayanist concept and Pala style. |

Art | Pala artistic influence can be noticed from the red tone that occupies the painting. The niches for enshrining Buddha images that cloister at the wall of the temple are flanked by Mahayana Bodhisattvas. The dress and regalia of these figure are very similar to those of Pala sculpture, including the diadem with three pointed leafs, the S-shaped Yajnopavita and the folded lower garment. |

Religion and belief | Manjusri (holds Utpala kind of lotus) and Avalokiteshvar (hods Padma kind of lotus) are the most popular Bodhisattvas in Pagan murals. These Bodhisattvas are normally conceived as the attendants of the Buddha Shakyamuni. In this temple these Bodhisattvas flank the niche presumably meant for the Buddha image. |
