Art | It is a rectangular-shaped lintel. Straight lines with curved ends cross the center of the lintel. The lines are decorated with 5 oval patterns; the inside and outside of the oval patterns are decorated. Under the straight lines are engraved patterns of garlands and a bunch of flowers. Next to both curved ends there is a standing lion supported by a square base. The lower part of the base shows Kanok pattern. |
Key academic information | This piece of lintel was found at the northern Prasat of Prasat Khao Noi, Amphoe Aranyaprathet, Sa Kaeo Province. It is in the Prei Khmeng style of the late 13th century B.E. It is the first batch of lintels found in Thailand. This lintel is used to decorate the northern Prasat of Prasat Khao Noi together with 3 other lintels that share Sambor Prei Kuk and Prei Khmeng Arts. This suggests that the northern Prasat that was approximately built during the 13th century B.E. This is considered as one of the oldest examples of Prasat of Khmer culture found in Thailand. |
