History of production

There is no official record of the construction history, but it was believed to be built simultaneously as the casting of the Phra Chao Lan Thong in 1497 by the king of Hansrithat Mahasuramontri.

The Ku Phra Chao Lan Tong has a base consisting of two lotus bases overlapping in the Yok Gej plan without Look Kaew Ok Kai. The bottom was added to decorate the Lanna stucco pattern, including flowers, leaves, and animal pictures inserted. Ruen That is a square room with three corners on each side. There is a Yok Gej in two corner arch, and each corner has a decorative pattern. Ruen That has a lotus base at the bottom and a lotus tiara on the top. There is a Phra Chao Lan Tong house inside with f a line angel’s decoration in the arch. Ruen That is a combination of a stacked floor and sloping roofs, which are popular styles in Lanna art.

Although the laying of Ku Phra Chao Lan Tong is similar to the top of the Prasat in Burmese art and different from Rattanakosin art, it has many different characteristics from Burmese and Rattanakosin art. The decoration, such as the building in the Increase angle plan, showing the base of each layer of Ruen That, the decoration of a Bunthalang at the Ruen That and the roof and the modeled building which was decorated with small pillars.

1. Entrance arch of Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, Lampang Province, is an example of an arc that has the same stucco pattern as Ku Phra Chao Lan Tong, which can be used to determine the age of the stucco of Ku Phra Chao Lan Tong.

2. Ku Phra Kaen Chan of Wat Maha Photharam, Chiang Mai Province is another “Ku” that used to house Buddha images as well as Ku Phra Chao Lan Tong with stucco designs that can be dated during the reign of Phra Muang Kaew, which is contemporary with Ku Phra Chao Lan Tong when first built.
