Art

This Buddha image is in seating posture and a subduing Mara attitude. It has small hair buds, flame-like halo, large face, big eyes, very large nose, smiling mouth of Lanchang style and large and even fingers.

Phra Sai shows a true Lanchang art features, which is different from Buddha images in the earlier periods that had strong influence from Lanna.

Phra Sai was originally enshrined at a cave near Mahachai city. The city dwellers normally brought this Buddha image out to ask for the rain during drought.
