History of production

No clear evidence of the date of construction is found, estimating from the art traits, could be built between the reign of King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn.

Art

The crown-topped Busabok is consist of the base, the middle part and the top part. The base is in the Singha style with additional corners with the large piece of wood in the front for the monk to get to the pulpit. The middle part is penetrated with the recessing corners (12-piece) at all four corners. The top part of Busabok has the details similar to the details of Phra Maha Pichai Mongkut (Great Crown of Victory, the Coronation crown of Thailand) featuring the 3-tier of diadem, each tier is decorated with moving flowers. Above it is the funnel.

Key academic information

The crown-topped Busabok Pulpit also known as Song Dhamma Throne is located inside the Sermon Hall of Wat Ratchapradit Sathitmahasimaram. It is one of the masterpiece artifacts of Wat Ratchapradit. The Busabok with the crown-styles top is rarely found in Thai arts. Some of the know ones are the Ayutthaya art’s Busabok of Wat Kang Kao, Nonthaburi, Rattanakosin art’s Busabok of the Principle Buddha of Wat Anongkaram, Bangkok and Busabok of Wat Isuanin Wararam in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. The crown top part of Busabok of Wat Ratchapradit has the details similar to the details of Phra Maha Pichai Mongkut (Great Crown of Victory, the Coronation crown of Thailand) featuring the 3-tier of diadem, each tier is decorated with moving flowers, glided on the stained glass to make it seem like the Royal Reginia of Thai Monarch.
