History of productionSantiago fortress is located in the north of Intramuros city. It was formerly the fortress of Sultan Suleiman. Later in 1571, Spaniards established Manila as the new capital of the Philippines. During late 16 century, they rebuilt the fortress using stones. In late 18 century, the gate of the fortress was built for Saint James, the Saint of Spain. The gate was destroyed during World War II and was rebuilt in late 20 century.
ArtSince the Philippines was once colonized by Spain and Saint James was one of Jesus’ apostles and was the Saint of Spain, the image of Saint James is then used to decorate the gate of Sandiago’s fortress.
