History of productionThe legend narrates that Pra Bang was the gift presented by Khmer king to King Fa Ngoum. The image was enshrined firstly at Viang Kham and then reached Laung Prabang during the later reign. Thereafter, the city of Luang Prabang (formerly Xiang Thong) was entitled after the name of the image. Nowadays, the image becomes the most significant Buddha image in the city.
ArtThis Buddha image is characterized by the small hairy curls, both-shoulder-covered robe, tow-handed Abhya gesture and the strip of cloth at the lower garment. These features suggest that this Buddha image is assignable to the Post-Bayon style of Khmer art.
