History of production | Prasat Neak Pean is built on a large pond called “Narai Phrakhan”. It was built in the reign of king Chayavaraman VII. According to the inscription, it was called “Chaitadaka”. It is a holy place for the kingdom as it can be compared with Anodat pond. |

Religion and belief | Anodat is aholy pond with clean and clear water. The water from Anodat will flow through the mountain holes on the four sides of the pond. They are the faces of the four animals including lion, elephant, horse and cow. At Prasat Nak Phan, there are four animal carvings of the same kind as well. The north side of the pond is marked with the elephant head, the east with the horse head, the south with the lion head and the west with the human face instead of the cow. |
