History of production | Borobudur is the loftiest Mahayanist Stupa in Indonesia. Constructed under the patronage of Mahayanist Shailendra dynasty. The Stupa was conceived in accordance with Mahayanist concept of Mandala or the microcosm. Every level represents the Bhumi or the spiritual level in Mahayana Buddhism. The lowest level represents Kamabhumi (the realm of desire) occupied by the story from Karmavibhanga or the story of desire-indulged people. The upper level is occupied by the narratives from Lalitavistara and Jatakas, the story of Shakyamuni as the representation of the transitional real between Kamabhumi and Rupabhumi. The top terrace is occupied by the narrative from Gandhavyuha, depicting the story of Sudhana who searched for the emancipation. |

He faces sidetas if he is facing towards the throne. His feet are pacing suggesting his walking. At the rear of the Master are the group of deities walking along with him while in the front are another group of deities holding parasols and regalia waiting for him to come. These deities can be identified as Deva (with the crown), Brahma (with jatamakuta) and Naga in human form (with the head of Naga) This indicates the greatness of the Master in every spheres of the universe: the netherworld, the earth and the heaven. |
