Religion and beliefIn both Theravada and Mahayana, it is believed that there have been countless past Buddhas as much as the sand in Ganga river and this will continue in the future. This belief emphasises “Agaligo” or the timeless status of Buddhism. The past Buddhas have been used to decorate many paiintings both in Pegan and in Myanmese art continueously.
