History of production | Although there is no documentary evidence for dating, the architectural and mural style of Payathonzu allow us to assign the temple to the late Pagan art of the 12th-13th century A.D. Interestingly, most of the temples in Minnanthu village were constructed during the same time as thistemple. |

Art | The gate of Payathonzu temple is beautified with interesting mural, including foliage motif and the Kinnaras-Kinnaris (Half-bird Half Man) figures at the both ends of the pediment. These mythical figures are the precursors for the decoration of the tympanum in Thai art, including Sukhothai and Lanna schools. The Boddhisattva embracing his consorts remind us of the Mahayana affiliation. |
