History of productionMasjid Kampong Hulu is the oldest masjid in Melaka built in 1720 by Dato Samsuddin bin Arom, who was a Kepitan or a native leader. The mosque was built when Melaka was under the governance of Dutch when they were allowed to build the mosque.
ArtThe Southeast Asian-styled mosques are different from Indian or Persian mosques. The mosque has a square plan with 4 pillars supporting the sloping roof with the wooden beam supporting the tile roof without any dome. Another interesting point is that this mosque mix both Malaysian art and Chinese influence shown in the bend up roof. Chinese tiles can be found in many parts of the mosque such as roofing
