History of productionMasjid was built in 1748 after the establishment of Masjid Kampong Hulu. The mosque is situated on the shopping district of the old Melaka full of Chinese commercial house. However, this area was once the resident of the South Indians called Kling.
ArtThe Southeast Asian-styled mosqued are different from Indian or Persian ones. The mosque has a square plan with 4 pillars supporting the sloping roof with tiles without any dome. The mosque with the sloping roof can be found at Masjid Kampong Hulu in Melaka, too. These two mosques are perfect examples and are regarded as the old style mosques before the dome system came with the British architect.
