The statue is sitting with the hands in the gesture of subduing Mara. It is supported by a lotus base. The style of the statue reflects the influence of Lanna style.

Key academic information

This is one of a beatiful examples of the attitude in khanomtom’s group or the attitude of meditation; it is in a perfect condition. This may relate to Phra Buddha Sihing of Lanna. If the assumption is true, there was surely a connection between Ayutthaya and Lanna.

Notice

Khanomtom’s group. Khanomtom is used to call people who have plump body. A lot of Buddha images also have that characteristic hence they are called Khanomtom. Some call this Nakhonsrithammarat’ style because they are generally found in the south as well, for example, Phra Buddha Sihing of Nakhonsrithammarat.
