History of production | From the history, the art style of the statue is still related to Khmer arts style in Thailand but some differences can be seen. It is believed that it was built before Ayutthaya period or early Ayutthaya, around 19th century B.E or early 20th century B.E. Some scholars call this “the 2nd generation of U-Thong arts”. |

Art | The Buddha image is in a sitting position in the attitude of subduing Mara. He is sitting on the plain base. The characteristics of the statue helps identify the age and the story of the history, for example, square face, the hairline above the forehead and wavy around the temples area. These characteristics are related to Khmer art in Thailand. There are little hair that looks like thorns of jackfruit with flame-like halo. This is different than other Khmer arts in Thailand but it may be related to Sukhothai arts, especially the frame-like halo style. This Buddha wears a rope with a long-large seam. The right hand is on the leg and the hand is very big. |
Key academic information | The attitude of subduing Mara is an example of a complete and beautiful Buddha image of before Ayutthaya period or early Ayutthaya. It shows less influence of Khmer art in Thailand. |
Notice | The Buddha statue with these characteristics makes people believe that it is the 2nd generation of U-Thong Buddha style. |
