History of production

From the history, this Wooden Door used to be at Phra Srisanpeth Stupa. It is unclear in which reign it was built but it is believed that it was from Central Ayutthaya period. The age of the Wooden door can be assumed that it is about Central Ayutthaya or 21st century B.E.

On each door appears the carving of a gatekeeper, both are in a different movement. Both of them have their legs on the lion’s base, one hand holds the flower and another hand hold a stiletto.

The faces of the gatekeepers are oval. They wear the crown with long apex, round earrings, filter neck, breast chain, breastplates, bracelet, belt, foot bracelet. They also wear shorts with long sleeves.

The head is surrounded by arches similar to Phrapha Monthon. Next to it is the bouquet and the tier.

Key academic information

This wooden door is one of the oldest doors that is in a perfect condition in Central Ayutthaya. It shows the belief of the people about angels who protect the religious places.
