History of production

King Prajadhipok gave orders to build it in 2473 BE.

Art

It is the standing Buddha image on lotus lion-footed base. King Prajadhipok initiative of building the Buddha is also inscribed on the base. Both arms are elevated. The palms are facing outward and the fingers are extended upwards or it is called the attitude of stopping the rainstorm. The fingertips are not even in length. The robe is worn covering both shoulders. The robe is wavy folded naturally worn over Sabong which also can be detected from the streak underneath. The wavy folded style of robes represents the realistic concept, however other features of the Buddha are still the same such as the calm face, low-glancing eyes, long ears, small hair coils, and there is a low Ushnisha under a flame halo and decorated with five-tiered golden perforated Chatra

Key academic information

King Prajadhipok gave orders to build a Buddha image of Somdet Phra Maha Samana Chao Kromma Phraya Vajiranyanavarorasa as he was the third abbot of Wat Bowonniwet Vihara and was the preceptor once King Rama VI and VII were ordained. He also made valuable contributions to Buddhism. Therefore, King Rama VI gave orders to build a standing Buddha image in the attitude of stopping the rainstorm wearing the robes covering both shoulders and decorated with five-tiered golden perforated Chatra over head. There is an inscription on the base and the base also contained the ash bone of Somdet Phra Maha Samana Chao Kromma Phraya Vajiranyanavarorasa inside. It is enshrined on the west wall of Vihara Keng and named Phra Phuttha Manusanak according to the monastic name of the Suprem Patriach which is Manussanago. It also corresponds to his name before he was ordained which is HRH Prince Manusyanagamanob. This Buddha image is a sample of the artwork in King Rama VII period which is barely detected due to his short reign. It could be inspired by Phra Phuttha Panya Akka, the Buddha image of Somdet Pra Maha Samana Chao Krom Phraya Pavares Variyalongkorn which King Chulalongkorn gave orders to build enshrined inside Vihara keng on the east.
