Mister Mario Tamayo, an Italian architect of the Department of Public Works., designed the building during 1903-1905. The construction was completed in 1906. |
Art | Chitralada Palace is the building in an Italian villa style. The diagram is in U shape. There are balconies both at the front and the back. There is a hall in the middle for ventilating. There is a hip roof with an eave. The door and the window are decorated with geometric flora stucco pattern. Doors and windows are in rectangles with curved lines. The interior is divided into the bedroom and a work station. They are decorated in Baroque art style. Other rooms are simply decorated. The art style is similar to the one of Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall because they are designed by the same architect and they both are located in Dusit Palace. |
Key academic information | King Rama V. had Chitralada Palace built in the south of Dusit Palace for Phra Bat Somdet Phra Poramenthra Maha Vajiravudh. The building is in Western architectural style deigned by the Western architects. The exterior of the building is an Italian villa style decorated with stucco motifs at the door and window frames. There is a Western pattern, the pattern of the crown surrounded by the flora, that represents the highest position of Crown Prince. The interior is designed for working and living. Though the style of the building is in Western style, the name is still related to Royal belief because Chitralada is the name of Chitraladawan, a garden of Indra on the Tavatimsa Heaven. |
